How is coaching different from therapy?

While overlap may exist between the role of a coach and therapist at times, coaching is present and future oriented with an acute focus on behavior. Therapists are present and past oriented with more emphaises on mental processes.

What are things coaches do Not do?

  1. Diagnose or treat medical conditions: Health and wellness coaches are not medical professionals and cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions. They can provide guidance on healthy lifestyle habits that can support overall health, but they cannot provide medical advice or treatment.

  2. Prescribe medications or supplements: Similarly, health and wellness coaches cannot prescribe medications or supplements. They may recommend certain supplements or other natural remedies that can support overall health, but they cannot prescribe or advise on specific dosages or treatments.

  3. Provide therapy or counseling: While health and wellness coaches may provide emotional support and guidance, they are not trained therapists or counselors. They cannot provide therapy or counseling for mental health conditions or other emotional issues.

  4. Make decisions for clients: Health and wellness coaches can provide guidance and support, but ultimately, clients are responsible for making their own decisions about their health and wellness. Coaches cannot make decisions for clients or force them to make certain choices.
